Connect/JES

z/OS

Turn Mainframe JES output into real-time automation, integration, and AI inference.

Running as a z/OS JES Writer, Connect/JES monitors the JES output stream and automatically triggers Connect/MP processing actions when files meet defined selection criteria. This enables organizations to compress, route, and deliver mainframe output to UNIX services, web applications, hybrid environments, and AI inference pipelines. By feeding operational data directly into modern workflows and AI Inference, Connect/JES accelerates data delivery, reduces manual handling, and connects mission-critical mainframe workloads to today’s intelligent digital infrastructure.

Extend JES to Modern Workflows - Powered by Native Connect/MP Integration

When qualifying files are detected, the corresponding Connect/JES task automatically triggers the associated Connect/MP action, enabling automated processing, transformation, and delivery of JES output.

This architecture allows organizations to extend traditional JES processing into modern automation workflows without modifying existing batch jobs.

Downstream Automation Workflows

The output of the initial Connect/JES initiated Connect/MP component can take several forms. It may produce a z/OS or USS file, be FTP’d or emailed, or be piped into a distributed application or subsequent Connect/MP component process—all under the control of a single z/OS job.

Features Overview

JES Writer
  • Can invoke any Connect/MP ACTION (eg):
    • ZIP
    • MAIL
    • PDF
    • AI
  • Can be run as a one-time process or remain awake to process selected reports as they are created until stopped or z/OS is shutdown.

  • Flexible Selection Criteria such as: JOBNAME, JOBID, CLASS, FORM, DESTINATION

  • DISPOSITION Control (KEEP | DELETE)

  • Flexible Output Methods:
    • Sequential, PDS, ZFS
    • EMAIL, FTP, PIPE into file transfer and CLI Commands
Batch Program Coming soon...

In addition to its JES Writer capabilities for automated report processing, the Connect/JES component provides a powerful batch program for direct JES report selection and processing. This interface allows administrators and automation scripts to execute JES operations as native z/OS jobs, enabling flexible and efficient control of report handling.

The batch program makes it easy to integrate JES report processing into batch workflows, operational scripts, and existing automation frameworks. Users can select, manage, and process JES output independently of other Connect/MP actions, providing a straightforward way to run targeted report operations when needed.

With this capability, Connect/JES extends the flexibility of Connect/MP by enabling native, scriptable JES processing that fits naturally into z/OS batch environments and enterprise automation strategies.

Related Functionality

PDF Maker for JES Reports and Text Files

Transform traditional mainframe output into professional, shareable documents with the built-in PDF Maker feature in Connect/MP. This capability converts JES reports and standard text files into formatted PDF documents, making it easy to distribute, archive, and present critical information outside the mainframe environment.

PDF Maker provides flexible formatting controls and attribute settings, allowing you to customize page layout, fonts, headers, and other presentation and security details to match your reporting requirements. It can be executed as a standalone Connect/MP action or seamlessly integrated as a parameter within other Connect/MP features (eg ZIPJEZ, D21JES), enabling automated PDF generation as part of broader workflow processes.

With PDF Maker, Connect/MP helps modernize mainframe output, turning raw reports into polished PDF documents that are easy to share across teams, systems, and platforms.

JES-to-JES Transfer (Connect/Hybrid)

The Connect/Hybrid component of Connect/MP includes powerful capabilities for transferring JES reports between different JES subsystems. This feature enables organizations to move spool files and reports across systems reliably, supporting operational needs such as disaster recovery (D/R), backup processing, and workload redistribution.

By allowing JES output to be securely transferred between environments, Connect/Hybrid helps ensure that critical reports remain accessible even when systems change or recovery procedures are activated. This capability simplifies cross-system report management and supports resilient mainframe operations by making it easy to replicate or relocate JES output where it is needed.

With JES Report Transfer, Connect/MP extends its automation capabilities beyond a single system, enabling dependable report mobility across the enterprise mainframe infrastructure.

Many of the world's top mainframe installations are using Connect/MP every day to simplify and accelerate mainframe file exchange, across the Enterprise and beyond.
